Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to foster infrastructure and economic development in Africa
2017 Public Private Partnerships & African Infrastructure Summit

What kind of policies and partnerships need to be introduced and adopted in order to incentivise increased investment in African Infrastructure?

It is acknowledged that infrastructure is a critical driver of economic growth and can significantly raise living standards of population. A review of infrastructure needs in Africa suggests that the challenge is immense and there is a need for investments in Infrastructure if governments are to experience economic growth. The potential role for public-private partnerships (PPPs) in meeting this infrastructure challenge is critical. Although it is evident that PPPs provide governments across the globe with opportunities to develop public infrastructure through collaboration with private sector partners and that PPPs also provide governments with opportunities to share risks with private partners.  An analysis of data shows that PPPs have grown significantly in the developing world, but remain insignificant in addressing the critical infrastructure challenges.

What to Expect in 2017

The Summit has been specially designed to showcase investment opportunities and infrastructure development projects, real estate and property, PPPs and strategic projects, energy and power projects.  Project sponsors, developers and managers, financiers, multilateral development agencies, insurance companies, public and private sector players will discuss ways to mobilise PPP projects in Africa, develop bankable projects and review best practice scenarios. Moreover dialogues on the real estate and infrastructure outlook will form critical discussions on this event.

The summit will also bring all stakeholders concerned about infrastructure development in Africa to discuss about making PPPs work in broadening access to infrastructure. The main topics will be on education infrastructure, ICT, Agriculture, Water, Roads and Transport as well as energy and power. With the advent of climate change, energy poverty and food security challenges, there is a critical need to strengthen PPPs to drive the goal of economic growth and social development.
